If you’ve ever been on a long flight, you know that the food can sometimes be less than appetising. This is especially true if you are flying economy class. The food is often overcooked, dry, and tasteless. However, there may be a way to improve the taste of airline food.
But there may be a way to improve the taste of your in-flight meals… According to Professor Charles Space, “The low air pressure in the passenger cabin, the dry air and the loud engine noises, contribute to our inability to taste and smell food and drink.”
Studies have shown that wearing headphones can actually improve the taste of food in flight, even enhance the flavour of food. The researchers found that music can help to mask unwanted tastes and smells, making the food taste better overall.
And although the headphones may not completely transform the meal into a gourmet experience, they could definitely make it more palatable. So next time you’re stuck on a plane with subpar cuisine, try putting on your headphones and see if it makes a difference. Bon appétit!
